I suck at updating but am going to be back in the habit since school is now out for the summer. Thanks. Here is one album that has been on constant rotation.

ARCHERS OF LOAF - ICKY METTLE - Alias Records. 1993

I have to admit I was late to learn of Archers Of Loaf but ever since hearing "Icky Mettle" my mind has been pretty much blown. I can't even find the proper words to describe how intense this album. Maybe the fact that it just sounds so raw and passionate. I've read a lot of reviews saying how this is definitely one of the ESSENTIAL indie rock records of the 90's and I couldn't agree more. Just download this and blow your mind at the incredible songwriting. My personal favorite tracks are of course "You And Me", along with "Might", "Wrong", Web In Front", "Backwash" and "Slow Worm". But honestly, there is not one bad track on this album. Great straight through beginning to end.

WE ARE THE UNION - WHO WE ARE - 2007

Let me first start off by saying that I don't really listen to Ska. But I do love Less Than Jake. With that said, this band gives me faith that I can like ska music. The next Less Than Jake? ( Losing Streak / Hello Rockview era of course). Either way this band rules. Their songs are more just straight up CATCHY pop-punk songs with horns, and a little heavieness at times for good measure. If you are/were into LTJ, or current pop-punk bands like NFG and Fireworks, you will sure to love this. Awesome record. And don't worry, they have their album up for download on purevolume for free anyway! so get it here! Stand out tracks: "MTV Is Over If You Want It", "I Am Like John Cusack..." and "You Can Have This Microphone When You Pry It From My Cold, Dead Fingers".

NEPTUNE - GONG LAKE - Table Of The Elements. 2008

I just recently found out about this band, but they have been around for quite a while. Also turns out they are from Jamaica Plain, real close by. I don't even know how to describe their sound. Noise metallic ambient droning post-rock sludge. Or something like that. All the instruments sans the drum kit seem to be made from random pieces of scrap metal and wire among other things. Just take a listen for yourself, this is their newest album, 2008's Gong Lake.

LIMBECK - HI, EVERYTHING'S GREAT - Doghouse. 2003

Popish Alt-Country/Folk, for lack of a better term. Either way this is a great record. It's awesome to just sit and chill to while drinkin' some brews with some friends on a nice day. Very fun record, and one of my favorites. Favorite songs have to be "Honk + Wave", "Julia" and "Brand New Orange". Lot's of twang going on on this record, and the singers voice is entrancing. Enjoy!

ATLAS SOUND - LET THE BLIND LEAD THOSE WHO CAN SEE BUT CANNOT FEEL - Kranky. 2008

Atlas Sound is the solo effort of Bradford James Cox, the lead singer of Deerhunter. It's hard to describe this record in words. Its like a sonic daze that entrances your mind. The repetitive nature of a lot of the tracks providing haunting loops stuck in your head, in a good way of course. If you like Deerhunter you should love this ambient noise experimental electronic soundscape of an album. The opening track starts off with a young boy reading a story, that is very inspiring and haunting in nature as previously mentioned. Definitely a great listen all the way through.

FIREWORKS / SAVE YOUR BREATH - SPLIT - Zone 6 Records. 2008

I checked out this split UK-only-release for one reason, and one reason alone. A new Fireworks track, which indeed, turns out to be the best track on the split, "Closet Weather". Fireworks also throw on a few more pop punk gems on here from the "We Are Everywhere" EP to round out their side of the split. I had never heard UK pop punk band Save Your Breath before, but after this I can dig it. The Fireworks songs outshine the SYB ones, but whos to say they aren't good in their own right and still worthy of a few spins.

HOUR OF THE WOLF - POWER OF THE WOLF - Limekiln Records. 2006

This is the debut EP from Arizona's (yeah, hardcore in Arizona) Hour Of The Wolf, and an awesome one at that. HOTW combines a lot of old school Black Flag esque hardcore, with what seems like just a huge rock and roll influence. Definitely a hardcore band with a lot of outside influences leaking in."Eat You Alive" is a killer opening track, and the rest of the EP just ravages you through. If you like this check out their newer EP, "Waste Makes Waste" and their upcoming Split with Lewd Acts.

ZANN - THREE YEARS IN THE DESERT - Vendetta. 2006

I just recently heard German HC band Zann for the first time and it was like a sonic blast to my eardrums. This band has to be one of the just streaight up most heavy, crushing bands out today. If you like bands like Integrity, Cursed, and Rise And Fall or bands like Neil Perry and Union Of Uranus you will be sure to dig this album. There's no other way to put it besides, DEVESTATING. The recording quality could be a little better but it kinda adds to the overall aesthetic of the album. This band isn't too big in the US, so don't sleep.

LEMURIA - THE FIRST COLLECTION - Yo Yo Records. 2007

Lemuria is a great female fronted pop-punk band from Buffalo, NY. I first got into them when I heard they acclaimed debut LP "Get Better", but this record also holds some of their best material. The First Collection is like what it says. Older songs from EP's, Splits, etc. If you like this you will love their new record. Standout track on this is "In A World Of Ghosts..." Check it.

MARVELOUS DARLINGS - I DON'T WANNA GO TO THE PARTY - Deranged. 2008

This is a two song single from one of Toronto's best bands: MARVELOUS DARLINGS. The singer is someone you might no expect... Ben Cook of No Warning fame, and currently playing guitar as "Young Govenor" in Fucked Up. This is a great intro to this band and both songs on here slay. 70's, glam rock inspired punk rock? for lack of a better term. Either way this is great and I keep listening to it on repeat, especially the title track which is definitely the better of the two (that doesn't the other track isn't great as well). Give this a chance and you'll thank me.

Hey.

It's been a while. My computer's hard drive somehow "corrupted" and wasn't able to be fixed. I had to get a new hard drive and lost everything. At least they gave me a new hard drive with 20gb more, and iLife08 for free. Anyway I loaded all my stuff on and got pretty much most of my music back. So here are some albums, for no reason really.

FAIRWEATHER - ALASKA - Equal Vision. 2002

Fairweather is probably one of my favorite bands and definitely one of the most underrated, especially amongst others in the EVR roster. This is their Alaska EP, which was released between their first and 2nd (last) full-length records. I think this is a great intro to the band and if you love this you are sure to love both records, even though very different in direction.

HOME GROWN - KINGS OF POP - Drive-Thru. 2002

This is definitely the one Home Grown album I really listen to a lot. I am not too familiar with their oldest material, and don't own much else besides this record. I don't even know if their still a band anymore. But either way, I love this record and it is definitely a stand out in their catalog. Just really fun pop punk like what'd you'd expect from drive-thru, but not overly cheesy like their current catalog, and it definitely has some interesting songwriting in their especially from this kind of band.

NEW FOUND GLORY - NEW FOUND GLORY - Drive-Thru. 2000

New Found Glory is probably one of if not my favorite pop punk band of all time. They are one of the few pop punk bands to progress and get huge and still maintain roots within where they came from. All of their albums are different, but great in their own right. I can't even pick a favorite NFG album, but this record definitely is a staple of their catalog and is a must for any listener of this band. Please if you haven't heard this, do yourself a favor and get it!

It is a great pop punk record, and even though this band may not be good anymore, I still won't forget that their back catalog is pretty awesome.

Six tracks in nine minutes is all this band ever put out, but it is still one of my favorite screamo releases ever. I can't explain how many elements of punk, screamo and hardcore this band combines to make something like I have yet to ever hear repeated. Blistering.

JAWBREAKER - 24 HOUR REVENGE THERAPY - Tupelo/Communication. 1994

This is easily one of the best punk albums ever written. It is my favorite Jawbreaker album, along with a majority of fans. I can't even begin to explain how songs like "Boxcar" and "Do You Still Hate Me?" (lyrics above) just spoke to me at such a crucial age. The lyrics are so relatable even over a decade after it's release. This should be a fan favorite of anyone into any kind of melodic emotional punk and hardcore.

Things I like include: Graphic design, Apple products, record collecting (punk/hardcore), drinking, smoking weed, sleeping, Seinfeld, sitting at my desk, cheese, and being alone.

Things I dislike include: Big groups of people I don't give a fuck about, the movies, the majority of the human race, Windows OS, waking up everyday, sulking through the day, and barely getting by.

I have this problem where I don't like to do "things". I don't like to go out to eat with a group of people, I don't like to go to the movies, I don't like to hang at other peoples houses, and I pretty much no longer like going to concerts/shows anymore. I don't get it. Why don't I like so much? The only things I enjoy seem to occur in the 15'x10' cube that is my Apartment.

I don't like the feeling of being unwanted, or uncomfortable. And whenever I leave my home I start to feel like this. But over what? I don't know. Sometimes I feel vulnerable even. I'm not really sure how to put my finger on it. Maybe it's because I feel like I cant relate to anyone. I can't talk to anyone. It's hard to get everything that's in my head out, and for it to make sense to another indiviual. I usually don't even bother. I feel like no one can understand. I need to get out.

And last but not least, an album that pretty much sums up my life lately: PURE NOISE.

So many good bands are coming out of places OTHER than North America and sometimes I feel like a lot of hardcore kids from this area of the world forget that and don't realize there is SO much more out there. I am going to upload some albums from some bands you may or may not have heard of, but definitely deserve a chance. If you dig it, buy it.

DENY EVERYTHING - "FIRE THIS TIME" - Yo Yo Records. 2007

Deny Everything is from COLOGNE, GERMANY and plays fast intense melodic hardcore in the vein of Lifetime, Kid Dynamite and Shook Ones. Definitely one of the best bands in this style of hardcore out today and it's a shame they aren't more well known here in the states.

Jaws is a hardcore band from PERTH, AUSTRALIA. Think late 80's DC hardcore with insane riffs. I'd check this out if you are into bands like Negative Approach. This EP is 11 songs of raging hardcore and clocks in at just over 12 minutes. Check this out!

Language barrier aside, this band rips. Even though I don't understand what they are saying I still really enjoy listening to TOKYO, JAPAN'S Easel. The band also recently released a split cdep/7" with Seattle's Shook Ones and another EP on Alliance-Trax records in Japan. This band is so fun and deserves to be heard. 3 tracks of awesome melodic hardcore

Break Even is another band from AUSTRALIA. This is their first demo and a good intoduction to the band. They are just playing no frills hardcore in the vein of bands like Champion and Stay Gold. I don't have cover art for this so this is a picture of the band. They also have a 6 song EP out called "Young At Heart". Check it out as well.

KLAXONS - "MYTH'S OF THE NEAR FUTURE" - Polydor. 2007

Klaxons are an indie-rock, dance punk, electronic band from London. Hard to descrbie. This is their full length and it shreds. Great introduction to the band. My favorites tracks are probably Gravity's Rainbow and Golden Skans.

001: Getting Started / Some Music

This blog really has no certain purpose. I really plan on posting albums that I have been digging, art, design work, stories, everyday life, etc. Thanks to anyone who reads.

Here is some music I have been jamming to lately, and some that I've loved for a long time. I try to upload either rare, oop, or old material. If there is anything that should be taken down I will gladly do it. Click the album titles for the Mediafire links.

PHOENIX - "UNITED" - Virgin Records. 2000.

I've been pretty addicted to this album for a while now. Phoenix is a French Indie/Alternative/Rock/Electronic band, that speaks in English. This is their first LP and is definitely my favorite. A great Indie-pop albu, for lack of a better term. Standout tracks: If I Ever Feel Better, Too Young, On Fire.

VARIOUS ARTISTS - JUNO SOUNDTRACK - Rhino Records. 2008.

Ever since I saw Juno a few weeks ago I haven't been able to forget about it, or the awesome soundtrack. A lot of these songs don't appear in the movie but fit along well with the songs that do. They also omitted a few Kimya Dawson songs that were in the movie but not on this. Either way this is a great soundtrack and I suggest it to everyone. The Kimya Dawson and Barry Louis Polisar tracks are my favorites.

ANOTHER YEAR / DEATH IS NOT GLAMOROUS - SPLIT 7" - Cycle Records. 2007.

This is an awesome split between two or Europe's best melodic hardcore bands. Another Year are from Sweden and offer a more metallic sound akin to Shai Hulud. Death Is Not Glamrous are from Oslo Norway and take an obvious influence from bands like Lifetime, Kid Dynamite, and more. Europe is on the map with current hardcore, we just need to pay attention!

CIRCLES - "DEMO" - Self-Released. 2007.

This was one of my favorite demos of 2007. Here are Circles from Vancouver, BC. I'm pretty sure this band consists of member of Blue Monday and Go It Alone. 3 tracks of killer, intense melodic punk/hardcore, but with an Avail vibe. Check this out if you are a fan of the members previous bands or good hardcore.

TEXAS IS THE REASON - "DO YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE?" - Revelation. 1996.

This is easily in my Top 10 records of all time, and if you haven't heard this band I'm sorry for you. This is the sole full length from this NYC band. Seminal "emo" for lack of a better term, before the term was misused to describe mall metal bands. Everything about this record is perfect. It just flows from soft to hard, slow to fast, and everything in between. It's hard to even pick standout tracks because they are ALL that good, but at the moment I'd say my favorite track is 'Back And To The Left'.
